Inpatient Services & Day Care

Our indoor patient department has a day care facility for administering pulsed steroids and biologics.

Patients requiring day care and admission to the hospital are admitted to the 30-bed D-I Ward located on the first floor of the Ward Block in the main Hospital. Patients are admitted after evaluation in the OPD or emergency department.

Research

Faculty members of the department are involved in conducting several funded and non-funded research projects on various aspects of skin diseases, leprosy and sexually transmitted infections. The department has a well-equipped research laboratory.

Education

The Department provides training to MBBS, MD and PhD students. These students are chosen through a centralised selection test conducted by AIIMS.

Dr Vishal Gupta

Dr Vishal Gupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, AIIMS, New Delhi. He completed his MBBS from University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and his MD from AIIMS, New Delhi. He received the Dr KC Kandhari Book Prize Award for the best post-graduate student in 2013. He has more than 120 research publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals. His research project on alopecia areata received the best research award from the IADVL Academy as well as AIIMS Excellence award. He is the Associate Editor of the IJDVL, and has co-edited books on sexually transmitted infections and dermatopathology. His areas of interest include autoimmune blistering disorders, vitiligo, pediatric dermatology, complex medical dermatology and dermatopathology. His interests in these fields led him to attend the Pediatric dermatology course at Birmingham, United Kingdom, Dermatopathology observership at University of California, San Francisco, and International Society of Dermatology mentorship with Prof Dedee Murrell in Sydney, Australia.

Dr Kanika Sahni

Dr Kanika Sahni is an Additional Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology. She completed her MBBS from AIIMS, New Delhi and MD Dermatology at PGIMER, Chandigarh where she was the recipient of the coveted Kataria Memorial Gold medal for best postgraduate across all specialties.

Dr Sahni is also the recipient of many awards including MGM Medical College Award for Best paper in National Conference of IADVL in 2010 and first runner up in Dermatology Quiz for Postgraduates in 2010 and Imrich Sarkany non European memorial scholarship in 2018.

She is a passionate dermatosurgeon having expertise in many surgical procedures including vitiligo surgery, fat transfer, skin cancer surgeries and aesthetic procedures. Her passion led her to train in Cosmetic Dermatology and Lasers under Dr Martin Kassir, Texas, USA and she was awarded the International Society of Dermatology mentorship.

She has conducted research on vitiligo, pigmentary dermatoses, fat transfer, dermatosurgery and quality of life in skin diseases. She is an avid academician with more than 50 publications and numerous book chapters and an invited faculty at numerous national and international conferences and live surgical workshops. Dr Sahni also serves as the Content Editor of the IJDVL.

Dr Somesh Gupta

Dr. Somesh Gupta serves as a member of the WHO STI Guidelines Development Group, WHO expert group focused on research priorities in STIs and as the Chairperson of the National Working Group on Sexually Transmitted Infections/Reproductive Tract Infections Guidelines, established by the National AIDS Control Organization.

Dr. Gupta's dedication and expertise have earned him prestigious honours, including the AIIMS Excellence Awards, which he received on three occasions. His involvement as one of the Directors of the Dermatology, Aesthetics, and Surgery International League demonstrates his commitment to advancing medical knowledge globally. Dr. Gupta's influence extends beyond borders, as he has been invited in over 40 countries for academic ventures including as a visiting professor at the University of Michigan.

In the realm of Dermatologic Surgery, Dr. Gupta is known for his numerous innovations. His passion for exploring newer treatments is matched by his approachability, making him a valuable resource for both patients and aspiring researchers. His editorial contributions, including three international books, and a portfolio of around 350 publications in indexed journals, exemplify his commitment to advancing medical science and patient care.

Dr G Sethuraman

Prof G Sethuraman has more than 25 years of experience in clinical, teaching and research in Dermatology. He is a competent Pediatric Dermatologist He was awarded five extramural research grants related to Pediatric Dermatology and contributed meaningful and pioneering research work in Genodermatoses particularly in Congenital Ichthyosis and Epidermolysis bullosa with bench to bedside concept. The research outcomes had a strong translation application that had enabled him toreceive worldwide recognition and several awards.

He has bagged ten national awards for his research contribution including the prestigious ICMR DrKC Kandhari award and the highest honor in Medicine in India, the Dr.B.C.Roy National award for the year 2017. The Society for Pediatric Dermatology, USA, conferred on him the 2016 Dermatologist of the Developing Countries Award for his outstanding contribution in Ichthyosis.

He has been the key person in establishing the clinical diagnostic matrix for EB particularly fordeveloping countries and resource poor settings. He has more than 150 research papers and 15chapters in several books including Schachners’s and Harper’s Pediatric Dermatology. He has alsodelivered several invited lectures at various National and International meetings.

His other areas of interest include, vascular lesions, Lasers, collagen vascular disorders and allergy.
