ROUTINE LABORATORY SERVICES:

Automation is used in the laboratories for better output and quality

Blood Component Lab:

Blood and Blood Components are available in adequate quantities at all times:

Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
Platelet Concentrate (PC)
Cryoprecipitate
Leucoreduced Packed Red Blood Cells (LR-PRBC)
Leucoreduced Platelet concentrate (LR-PC)
Single Donor Apheresis Platelets (SDAP) - (on demand)
Apheresis, Paediatric unit preparation, Irradiated Blood Components , Autologous blood donation etc. are done as per demand.

Immunohaematology Lab:

Well equipped lab facilities for blood grouping , screening for irregular antibodies, compatibility tests using latest technology like SPRCA (Solid phase red cell adherence) and column agglutination (Gel).

Transfusion Transmissible Infection Screening Lab:

Every unit of blood collected is tested for transfusion transmissible infections like Hepatitis B , Hepatitis C, HIV- 1 and 2, Syphilis, Malaria . Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAT) is also carried out on all the collected blood units for additional screening test for HIV, HCV and HBV to increase safety of the blood and blood components.

Quality Management System :

Quality Control measures as per standard guidelines are being followed routinely for all activities of the Transfusion Services such as donor screening, blood collection, preparation of blood components , serological procedures for blood grouping and compatibility tests , and TTI screening tests. Blood components , Reagents and Equipments are subjected to periodic quality checks as per standard guidelines.

Pneumatic Tube System:

For transportation of Patient blood samples and Requisition and investigation forms between the Wards/ ICU/ CCU/ OT to Blood Bank CNC and vice versa

Computerization:

All major lab procedures and activities of the blood bank are computerized and integrated with the HIS.

The Blood Transfusion Services of C.N. Centre caters to round the clock transfusion needs of patients admitted in C.N Centre of AIIMS by collecting, processing and providing safe and quality blood and blood components which meets the standard quality control criteria. The activities include both inhouse and outdoor blood collection, blood donor motivation and pre-donation and post-donation counseling, blood component preparation and various serological tests like blood grouping, cross-matching , antibody screening and identification, screening for HBV, HCV, HIV, Malarial Parasite, Syphilis. All lab procedures, blood components, reagents and equipments are subject to routine Quality Control checks to increase safety and quality of blood and blood components.

Surplus blood and blood components when available, are issued on request to other Govt. licensed blood banks in Delhi, free of cost.
