The department has admitting facilities for 39 children in the pediatric surgery ward (AB-5) and for 10 neonatal surgical cases in the neonatal surgical ICU (AB-5 ICU). Eight of the thirty-nine bed in the ward are high dependency beds with full facilities for monitoring and ventilation. The neonatal surgical ICU is fully equipped with vital signs monitors, conventional neonatal ventilators, high frequency ventilator and other necessary equipment for neonatal care. One senior resident and a junior resident is available round the clock in the ward and one senior resident in the neonatal ICU for patient care and emergency services.
The facilities for routine pre-operative and post-operative care of surgical patients, ventilatory care, parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy are provided by the resident staff. Due to the shortage of staff and the indoor beds, most of the time, only the serious and indexed cases find admissions in the ward. The waiting list is long and may run for years.
The department conducts 8 operating sessions every week in main operating theatre (8th floor - main hospital). In addition, has access to the OT # 1 on I, III and V Mondays of every month and conducts operations at the extension center in Ballabgarh on Wednesdays.
