The All India Institute of Medical Sciences is India's apex medical institution, specifically established by an Act of Parliament in order to provide for state of the art medical services and also to act as a leader in the spheres of medical education and research.
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery at AIIMS is among the best in the country and has developed expertise in most of the current subspecialities in the Otorhinolaryngology. It provides a Cochlear Implant service and also runs speciality clinics in Head-Neck Cancer, Otology and Audiology, Vertigo, Rhinlogy, Skull Base Surgery and Voice disorders. The Department also includes a special Rehabilitation Unit of Audiology and Speech Therapy which provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services in Paediatric hearing loss, hearing aid fitting and testing, cochlear implant programming, speech therapy and post laryngectomy rehabilitation.
The department has also been playing a prominent role in the academic and research activities of Indian Otolaryngology. Various courses in the various sub-speciality areas of Otolaryngology are being regularly conducted.
