InPatient Services
Department provide indoor care for various respiratory diseases such as COPD, Asthma, interstitial lung disease, Lung cancer, pleural diseases and other heterogeneous conditions leading to respiratory failure. Our main ward is situated on the third floor in New Private Ward wing. This ward has 9 beds.
We have a dedicated ICU with 9 beds on the same floor attached with the ward. Each bed has “state of art” monitoring facility, advanced ventilators (including HFOV) and various accessories required for care critically ill patients. The ICU is manned round the clock by senior resident. The nurse patient ratio is 1:1.5.
Department provide following training programmes
DM degree: All the candidates who have passed their MD in Medicine/Internal Medicine/General Medicine from any medical college/institute recognized by Medical Council of India are eligible for this. The candidates are selected through two-step examination conducted by the institute (written exam – Step 1 and practical – Step 2). Written examination is based on multiple choice questions while practical examination (Step -2) consists of viva-voce, interpretation of X-ray and CT scan of the chest, blood gas and PFT reports etc.
During this course fellows are exposed to patients with diverse kind of pulmonary conditions, both stable and emergencies. During this training they are trained in use of flexible bronchoscope and thoracoscope; conduction and interpretation of pulmonary function testing and polysomnography and management critically ill patients in of ICU. During the training they also attend clinical discussion rounds with the department of radiology and pathology. They have regular teaching activities including seminars, journal club and bedsides. They also complete two theses dissertations during this course.
PhD degree: Department run a PhD programme for which there is an entrance examination every six months. This is also a two-step examination written (Step 1) and practical (Step 2).
