The Effect of Geographical Health Inequalities on Under-Five child mortality in India
PI: Dr. M. A. Khan
Source of Funding: SERB, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Amount: 15.93 lakhs
This study will offer incremental new information regarding under 5 child survivals at the individual or geographical levels in India. In this study, we attempt to examine whether the geographic regions which are underprivileged in terms of wealth, female literacy, child nutrition, or safe delivery etc were also grappling with the elevated risk of child mortality; whether there are any spatial outliers and change over historical time periods. Moreover, the evaluation emphasise the fact that there are complex social and demographic factors influencing under 5 child mortality which can be better understood using adequate statistical modelling which analyses the outcome of mortality beyond the individual child’s risk factors and which includes factors such as the area where the child lives at the time of the survey.
This study has implications for the country in terms of policy and planning for the achievement of Millennium Development Goal to reduce under 5 child mortality.
