Text Box:   Context   Medical Education is undergoing rapid changes globally and it is necessary for the medical teachers in India to catch up with the recent trends and innovations in this field.  The issues of concern are: curricular reforms, improved methods of teaching learning by harnessing the advantages of media and information technology, objectivization of assessment strategies, developing communication and managerial skills, professionalism including ethics which need to be incorporated in medical education.  KL Wig Centre for Medical Education & Technology at AIIMS has been engaged in organizing faculty development workshops from time to time, besides functioning as a state of the art media production facility at AIIMS.  As a part of its ongoing activities, it is proposed to organize a National Workshop on Emerging Trends in Medical Education at AIIMS, New Delhi from 23-25 November, 2006.    Target audience   The workshop is designed to facilitate the middle level faculty of medical colleges who evince keen interest in undergraduate teaching.   It is desirable that the Deans/Principals will nominate a team of three faculty members  belonging to basic sciences, para-clinical and clinical disciplines who will form a part of the Medical Education Unit in their respective colleges.  The number of participants will be limited to 30 on first come first served basis.   Issues to be discussed: · Curriculum planning: the components, steps, the types of curriculum · Teaching and learning: Principles and practice, improving didactic lectures, learning in small groups, learning of clinical skills; Lab exercises, use of simulations · Use of media in teaching learning: attributes of various media and their use · Preparation of learning resource materials · Assessment strategies: principles, tools and techniques · Innovative trends in medical education: Problem Based Learning, research in medica education, , ethical issues · Management of change, quality assurance in medical education The Program will include brief presentations by the resource persons, interactive sessions, small group activities besides hands on experience. The participants will mostly work in small groups and share experience with others under the guidance of the faculty.    The detailed programme will be sent in due course to the selected participants.   Registration, Travel & accommodation   A registration fee  of Rs. 1000/- would be charged from the selected participants.  This will include handouts, resource materials in the form of CD besides working lunch for three days of the workshop duration.  KL Wig CMET will not pay any TA and DA to the participants.  The same may be met by the participants on their own or by their sponsoring institutions.   However, the organizers will make arrangement on prior intimation for booking accommodation in the guest houses, the charges of which would be borne by the participants.
