Training in Electron Microscopy for (1) Scientific Investigators and

(2) Laboratory/Technical Staffs  -  ( 2008-2009)

 

1.         Scientific Investigators’ Training Programme

 

The training course offers comprehensive laboratory training on the specimen preparation, imaging and analysis techniques related to SEM, TEM and IEM.  The course offers a unique curriculum of classroom lectures by experienced scientists and laboratory practical in a small group setting with opportunity to interact with and discuss daily topics with instructors in a relaxed atmosphere. 

 

Eligibility:    Ph.D/MD or M.Sc. Degree in Life Sciences with 2-3 years of research experience.  The applicant should state clearly the nature of the research project in which he/she is involved (in 200 words) and why training in Electron Microscopy is necessary for pursuing further research. Candidates seeking direct admission to Advanced Course should have 2-3 years of research experience in Electron Microscopy [supported by publication(s)].  However, all candidates seeking admission to Basic Course will be considered eligible for the Advanced Course.  The advanced course will consist of (a) Immunoelectron microscopic techniques  (b) Cryo-technique (c) Tracer technique and    (d) Microwave technique.

 

2.         Laboratory Technicians’ Training Programme

In this short course, training is imparted in the basic maintenance and operation of electron microscopes and other ancillary equipment.  Candidates are also exposed to techniques of sample preparation, ultrathin sectioning and grid preparation for TEM and sample preparation, critical point drying and sputter coating for SEM and photomicrography.

Eligibility:  B.Sc. Degree and/or Diploma in MLT with minimum of 2 years experience in light microscopy.

3.         Summer Training for Laboratory/Technical Staff

 

This 6-week course is specially designed to train E.M. laboratory support staff to be well versed in specimen preparation, operation and maintenance of TEM and SEM, digital imaging and photomicrography.

 

Eligibility:   Laboratory/Technical Personnel from Institutions having some E.M. work experience or have undergone E.M. training for technical personnel at AIIMS.

 

Dates for Training Programmes

 

Scientific Investigators Training Programme:         3rd to 18th November, 2008 (Course fee Rs.5,000/-)

 

Laboratory Technicians’ Training Programme:      2nd to 10th  February, 2009 (Course fee Rs.2000/-)

 

Summer Training for Laboratory/Technical Staff: 15th May to 30th June, 2009 (Course fee Rs.5,000).

 

NOTE  :  COURSE FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE  BOARDING & LODGING. IT IS REQUIRED TO BE ARRANGED BY THE CANDIDATES THEMSELVES
