Completed his graduation (MBBS) from
Bangalore Medical College in 1991 and Post-Graduation in
Ophthalmology (MD) from Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic
Sciences (Dr. RP Centre), All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(A.I.I.M.S.), New Delhi in 1994. In 1998, obtained the Diplomate
of the National Board (DNB) degree as well.
As Senior Resident in the Retina
specialty, trained in Surgical and Medical management of Diseases
of the Retina, Vitreous and Uvea from the same institute during
the period 1995-1998. Subsequently continued to deal with surgical
and medical diseases of the retina as Senior Research Associate (C.S.I.R)
between 1998-2000
In 2000, was employed at the All
India Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RP Centre) as Assistant
Professor. In 2005, was promoted to Associate Professor.
His specialization through out his
career as ophthalmologist has been surgical and medical management
of diseases of the retina, vitreous and uvea. He has about 70
indexed publications in Journals like Investigative Ophthalmology
and Visual Sciences, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of
Ophthalmology and Graefes Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.
Notable publications include new techniques for administering
posterior subtenon injection of corticosteroids and removal of
retained intraocular foreign body; first reports from our country
on several rare retinal conditions and hypotheses pertaining to
posterior vitreous wick syndrome and. LASIK as a method for
inducing posterior vitreous separation.
Has been an invited Reviewer for
Journals like Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences,
British Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology,
Cornea, BMC Ophthalmology and Medical Science Monitor. Has been
editorial member for Medical Science Monitor and Neuro-Ophthalmology
(Japan). Has authored books (on Retinal Imaging; Fluorescein
angiography and Optical Coherence Tomography); CME publications
(on Endophthalmitis and Uveitis) and manuals (on .Diabetic
retinopathy and Lasers in Ophthalmology) Biography has been cited
in Marquis Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and
Medicine and Who’s Who in Asia.
Has been /Is Co-investigator in
several international multicentric studies including the
flucinolone acetonide intravitreal implant study for posterior
uveitis (Retisert study); flucinolone acetonide implant study for
diabetic macular edema (Alimera study); PKC-inhibitor (Ruboxystaurin
mesylate) study for diabetic macular edema; AdREM component of
ADVANCE study; INDEye (Indo-UK) study on Age Related Macular
Degeneration and Lens Opacities in India and LUX biosciences study
on Non-infectious posterior uveitis
