Dear Colleague 31st January, 2006 The department of Anatomy, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is organizing a “Wet Workshop on “Recent Advances in Diagnosis of Genetic Disorders” from 20th February to 6th March, 2006. The objective of this workshop is to enhance the knowledge of mid-career scientists in diagnostic, prognostic and screening of genetic disorders through lectures and hands-on experience on conventional cytogenetics, interphase cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics in various human tissues. The workshop will include lectures by leading Geneticists, Clinicians and Molecular Biologists. The various aspects that will be covered include principles and laboratory set-up for novel, advanced techniques like Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH), microarrays, ROMA, Amnio-PCR and genetic counseling. A demonstration of related equipments, software, probes, etc. is also being planned. The workshop will be mainly conducted by invited guest international faculty. On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my pleasure to invite the members/students of your college/department/institute/university to participate in this workshop. The number of participants will be limited to 15 students from all over India. Efforts will be made to provide admissible amount of travel allowance. Selected participants will have to pay a fee of Rs.2000/- as local maintenance. Applications should be submitted before 12th February, 2006 through Fax/Email to the Chief Organizer (address given below). Correspondence through email will be encouraged. The application must include curriculum vitae, email, phone (mobile numbers if any), Fax number, complete address, applicant’s actual research area & benefits expected from attending this workshop, any achievements, facilities available at the parent institution, letter of recommendation from the supervisor-in-charge and application forwarded by the Head of department/institution. In case application is submitted through email, it needs to be forwarded by the head of department/institution after final selection. Preference will be given to Ph.D & post-graduate medical students, post-doctoral fellows & mid-carrier scientists who have already received a basic training in cytogenetic ad molecular genetics or are well versed with basic genetic techniques. Successful applicants will be notified by 13th February, 2006 or earlier by email/phone/fax. We look forward to participation from your Institution in this workshop. We also hope that you will circulate this announcement for wider publicity.
