Casualty Services:

Department provides round the clock coverage to the casualty in medico- legal injury, sexual offences, poisoning and other complicated medico-legal cases. Department is also attending all the calls pertaining to medical examination in police & judicial custody.

Medico-legal postmortems performed - 1348 (2002):

Department also provided consultation services to the CBI,crime branch and other central & state investigating agencies in complicated medico-legal postmortem cases conducted at other centres of the country and also participated in board postmortems and scene investigations.

Court attendance by members of department 1500(2002):

Doctors of the department are also attending court on behalf of Director/ Medical Supdt./other doctors who have left the AIIMS as directed by court.

Clinical Forensic Medicine:

Department examined cases of age estimation, medical examination, marriage disputes, potency, DNA fingerprinting cases etc, etc, referred by court, CBI and other investigating agencies. Total 78 such cases were dealt in year 2002.

DNA Fingerprinting:

Department is in the process of establishing DNA Lab. Necessary equipments are in the process of being purchased

Medical Toxicology:

A full-fledged Medical Toxicology Laboratory is functioning in the department. The department is actively engaged in medical toxicology(clinical & analytical toxicology). Tests were performed for various poisons viz. Ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, heavy metals,cyanides, barbiturates, opium benzodiazepines carbamates, organo-phosphorus and organochlor compounds etc. etc. A total 430 such samples were analysed in year 2002.

Community Services:

Department participated in training programmes organised by Academy of CBI & NICFS, New Delhi. Lectures and demonstrations were held for CBI officials, Police Officers, Judicial, Officers, Medical Officers, Forensic Science experts, Public Prosecutors,Defence Personnel etc. from all over country.
