Another ongoing research area is the study of the genetic predisposition of North Indians to obesity and insulin resistance . Previously conducted studies include role of host genetics in conferring resistance to HIV-1 in Northern Indians. Member of the Indian Immunology Society and Association of the Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI). Honors/Awards: - Recepient of the FAIMER (Foundation of Advanced International Medical Education and Research) fellowship in year 2006
- Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize awarded by ICMR for the year 2003
- Fogarty fellowship in year 2002 for a short term training at the New York University School of Medicine, New York, under the Fogarty AIDS and Tuberculosis International Training and Research Program.
- Dr. P.S Murthy best paper award for paper entitled “Expression of CXCR4 receptor in human placenta: Implications in HIV transmission”, presented at the 30th Annual conference of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India, 19-22 January, 2004
